BETHESDA TWEEN SHINES LIGHT ON INVISIBLE CHILDREN

BETHESDA, MD, April 2, 2008--Noah Katz seems like your typical 5th grade kid, spending his days juggling school, playing with his friends & siblings, reading the “Harry Potter” series, and managing his imaginary career as a rock-star in the “Guitar Hero III” video game.  In his spare time, however, Noah is undertaking an extraordinary goal of helping children in Africa.

Partnering with Sun Night Solar in Houston, Texas, Noah is organizing a bulk purchase of BoGo Lights, high-tech solar rechargeable L.E.D. flashlights.  BoGo means “buy one, give one”, and for every flashlight purchased in the US, Sun Night Solar organizes the delivery of a matching flashlight to a relief organization in the developing world.  Noah plans to designate his “give one” lights to Invisible Children, an organization that helps children victimized by war in Uganda.

When Noah arrived at sleep-away camp last summer with a BoGo Light, he discovered that he had the brightest flashlight in his camp bunk, and by recharging the batteries during the day using the built-in solar panel, he never had to purchase replacement batteries from the camp store.  The batteries in the BoGo Light are replaceable and can be recharged as many as 1000 times, which equates to nearly 3 years of daily use.

“The BoGo Light is an awesome flashlight, plus it’s good for the environment,” explains Noah. “Buying BoGo lights helps kids who don’t have light to do their homework.”

Inspired by his personal experience at camp, Noah decided to integrate the BoGo Light into his community service project at Beth El Religious School in Bethesda, MD.  With a little help from his father, Noah has created a brochure, a web page under his mother’s art gallery web site, and a comic strip that tells the story of the BoGo Light.  While anyone can visit http://www.bogolight.com to buy and give a BoGo, Noah is organizing a bulk order this spring from fellow Bethesda residents, which will save participants $6.95  in shipping charges per flashlight.

The standard BoGo is orange, but Sun Night Solar learned that in several male dominated societies, some men were stealing the BoGo lights that had been distributed to needy women.  Pink BoGo Lights solved the problem because the men in these communities do not want to be seen carrying what is viewed as a “women’s product.”

“Sun Night Solar has done a phenomenal job with the design and quality of the flashlight, and the social cause is simply wonderful,” says Dad Michael Katz.  “I am extremely proud of Noah for doing his part to help others, and the entire family is excited to support him.”

Noah will accept orders until early May, and will deliver the lights later in May, in plenty of time for sleep-away camp, Father’s Day and the summer thunderstorm season.  Information is available at http://www.sharonfinegallery.com/bogo.htm.
